ABSTRACT

By definition, a pituitary incidentaloma is a lesion found in the pituitary on imaging done for an unrelated reason. This is rarely noted in pregnancy, as imaging is less commonly performed due to potential adverse effects on the fetus from radiation exposure or contrast agents. Incidentally discovered pituitary lesions are also unusual in pregnancy as fertility is often impaired due to hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and therefore, these adenomas are typically discovered prior to pregnancy during evaluation for infertility. Pituitary incidentalomas, nevertheless, do affect the pregnant population and evaluation is indicated to ensure that visual fields are protected and hormonal abnormalities are addressed.
