ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology has irrupted quickly in industries worldwide, not only in developing new technology but also in improving methods already established. The high demand for new technologies and treatments has prompted that nanotechnology to give global revenues over a billion dollars annually. Nonetheless, this accelerated rhythm of development and production has also created new types of health-safety concerns in the population, and governments have recognized the need for new norms and legislations. By now, the interest in nanomaterials not only depends on their intrinsic structural characteristics but also on their stability under different conditions. Experimental studies under extreme conditions remain insufficient to extend unexplored nanomaterials to novel applications. In this chapter, we will explore how nanotechnology has impacted the industries, economies, countries’ legislations, and what can be expected in the short- and long-term.
