ABSTRACT

The excessive and constant use of agrochemicals mainly pesticides resulted in irreparable damages to nature including environmental pollution, ecological imbalance, pest resistance, health hazards, loss of biodiversity, beneficial microorganisms, soil health deterioration, etc. The realization of these problems forced us to shift from chemical pesticides to biopesticides. Among biopesticides, the viral biopesticides are gaining importance because of their strong host specificity and eco-friendly nature. Among viruses baculoviruses as insecticides, bacteriophages as bactericides, fungal viruses as fungicides and weed viruses as weedicides are used as viral biopesticides. These different types of viral biopesticides their mode of action, method of application have been illustrated in this chapter.
