ABSTRACT

Wasps of the genus Trichogramma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) are used successfully for many years as biocontrol agents against a wide range of economically important crops, vegetables, fruit orchards, and forest insect pests; they are currently the most widely produced and released natural enemies in biological control over the world. Trichogramma pretiosum Riley (1879) is the most widespread species in the Americas and one of the most common wasp found in agricultural areas, due to its unique importance as an egg parasite used worldwide to combat various agricultural pests, usually moths and butterflies (Lepidoptera). As a result, a decrease in the population of the pest is observed, without damage to the environment.
