ABSTRACT
the construction of new high-speed freight railway line between Milan and Genoa, the “Terzo Valico dei Giovi”, foresees the realization of 4 adits to speed up the tunnels excavation guaranteeing accessibility and escaping routes from tunnels both during the construction phase and during the railway operation. The activities performed into the tunnels require that underground air has to be replaced by fresh air in order to allow an healthy workplace. The reduced size of the adit has forced the designers to provide an innovative automatic air distribution system that consists of a metal tank called “Plenum” fed by only 2 air ducts, from which 4 distinct ventilation stations pick up the amount of air required for each excavation face.
