ABSTRACT

The application of steel fibre reinforced concrete is more and more common due to a lot of improvements, mainly related to durability and sustainability. The production process is easier, minimizing edge cracks during handling, the crack width and depth are greatly reduced. Due to a higher resistance against corrosion and impact toughness, the segments are more durable. The service life is longer according to the very low need for repair or maintenance and, on top, the production costs are also lower than for conventional steel reinforced tunnel segments. Nowadays, many standards have been published for the definition of the fibres characteristics, for the measuring of the SFRC mechanical properties and for the design, production and control of the SFRC structures. The aim of this paper is to provide some useful indications for the design of SFRC Tunnel Lining Segments and to improve the durability in aggressive environment.
