ABSTRACT

Communication is very important in complex, transnational infrastructural projects like the Brenner Base Tunnel. Here technical experts work together in the project society. They must be able to communicate in Italian, German and English. On the other hand, the construction sites are a workplace for people from 11 European countries. They speak different languages and come from different cultural backgrounds.

Within BBT SE, a ‘multi-level approach’ has been developed for communication. The aim is to inform all stakeholders, everyone from the local population to political decision-makers, students and scientists at the universities about this project for the longest tunnel ever built. Furthermore, a new method to determine the number of informed persons has been developed.
