ABSTRACT

The paper presents arguments and describes a method for the selection of TBM when the excavation has to be performed at shallow depth in highly urbanized areas. As a practical application an innovative approach, based on multi-criteria analysis, for the selection of the machines to be employed for the excavation of the Line 15 section 2C of the Grand Paris Metro between Noisy Champs and Bry Villiers Champigny. The aim of the paper is also to stimulate thoughts regarding the importance of the geotechnical information needed for a comprehensive risk assessment analysis and the related actions requested to mitigate the residual risk below the acceptable level.
