ABSTRACT

With the pervasive use of IoT enabled devices and the vast plethora of applications being supported by IoT concepts, researchers are next fascinated to explore the domain of energy efficient IoT, rightly termed Green IoT. Green IoT, as the name suggests, is an attempt to use the IoT concepts in an energy efficient manner. The major reason for this shift towards renewable or green technology is the health concerns of the users, who are adversely affected by the enormous amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) released by the omnipresent use of cellular networks in our daily lives. The data sensed by these Green IoT device sensors is thereafter analyzed and synthesized using big data analysis techniques. Integration of these two budding technologies has paved the way for the envisioning of smart cities. The chapter explores these two technologies and then presents an insight into how their fusion can contribute towards the development of smart cities, a vision of the future.
