ABSTRACT

The advancement of technology improves human life by providing pervasive and ubiquitous healthcare monitoring system for patients who suffer from various chronic diseases. However, the integration of wireless body area network (WBAN) with wearable Internet of Things (IoT) devices achieves the goal of monitoring and providing immediate treatment to the patient remotely irrespective of physical presence, i.e., anyplace and anytime. Therefore, this IoT-based WBAN health monitoring system reduces the life risk. The sensors are connected wirelessly in a network called WBAN on the patient's body and collect different health parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and blood sugar level, etc. This sensed data are transmitted to the monitoring station or emergency unit after processing by the IoT gadgets for analyzing the health condition of patient. This IoT-based WBAN health monitoring system has a great challenge of stealing the patient's information during the communication between IoT devices and emergency units. Therefore, security and privacy are major issues in this system. This chapter focuses on different security issues, requirements, and solutions for IoT-based WBAN healthcare system with the discussion of various security metrics.
