ABSTRACT

The present situation and the change dynamics of the 10 sectors of the Greek bioeconomy (BE) field are assessed for their potential, size, problems and opportunities. The six sectors constituting the BE-2020 already contribute 20% of GDP to the national economy, i.e. €38 billion/year and more than 650,000 in employment. The emergence of the four sectors of the BE-2030 could add another 15% of GDP, i.e. €25 billion/year and 220,000 more in employment. The basic features of a new bioeconomy strategy are pointed out, and the process followed is presented.
