ABSTRACT

Crop sublimates/residues are plant parts that are unaccounted for economic purposes in the agricultural field after crop harvesting. Farmers usually burn the crop residues, which is a cost-effective option compared to any other means, however, it creates enormous environmental issues. The various uses of residues should be explored, such as ruminant feed, fodder, animal bedding material, mushroom cultivation, etc. The Government of India (GOI) has attempted to restrict the burning of these residues by providing subsidies for mechanization and campaigns conducted to convert crop residue into energy. Composting, biochar production, and mechanization are few effective valorization techniques while preserving the nutrients present in the crop residue in the soil. Smart mechanization aids in increasing production, productivity, and profitability of a crop within the specified time and is a key factor for crop residue management.
