ABSTRACT

The traditional classroom instruction no longer prepares learners for the future workforce of the 21st century. Technology advancement has transformed old jobs and created new ones along the way. Thus, 21st century learners need to learn new sets of skills that are transferable between jobs, namely critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity (the 4Cs). Being expected to teach using technology, teachers play significant roles in helping students acquire the 4Cs. However, they lack knowledge of effective strategies. In response to this need, this article presents teaching strategies using technology that can help promote the 4Cs. Three strategies are discussed in this article: (1) learning about Web 2.0 tools; (2) utilizing the SAMR (substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition) model; and (3) engaging in collaborative problem-based learning using the web.
