ABSTRACT

The field of education field is inevitably influenced by the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Education 4.0 brings new paradigms in the teaching–learning process. Generation Z students’ attachment to technology creates new trends in learning. Teachers are challenged to keep improving students’ critical thinking abilities to do what technology cannot do, and to not be overpowered by technology. This literature study focused on the significance of teaching critical thinking in Industry 4.0 education. Literature resources, both books and journal articles, mainly on Education 4.0, critical thinking, and classroom application, were studied. This article highlights how critical thinking is crucial and can be learned and taught. Finally, it concludes with ideas on classroom activities to teach and enhance critical thinking skills for Indonesian EFL students at the higher level based on 5C stages, namely comprehend, compare, comment, construct, and create to make students good thinkers. An example of classroom application is also provided.
