ABSTRACT

The rapid advance of social media platforms has changed the way people interact and communicate with others around the world. In some ways, this advance in technology has resulted in more and more students devoting their time to access various kinds of social media for different purposes, one of which is practicing writing and speaking in English. This article provides a literature review of how social media are widely used to enhance students’ English speaking skills. Different perspectives on how theses platforms are used are provided in this article. The most obvious conclusion from the literature is that social media have many advantages in enhancing students’ English speaking skills. Several factors and activities of social media that influence students’ speaking skills are also discussed.
