ABSTRACT
Junior high school students are beginners in learning vocabulary and grammar for meaningful purposes. They need to understand the relationships among forms, meanings, and their uses to communicate either in spoken or written form. However, most junior high school students still do not understand how to construct a meaningful purpose. They just focus on remembering words and patterns. It is perhaps caused by their teachers’ teaching styles, which still use conventional methods. This can actually be improved by using a number of mobile applications. One of the applications that can be used in learning vocabulary and grammar in meaningful purposes is Hello English. It consists of learning materials, tests, and games. This article reviews previous studies on improving junior high school students’ vocabulary and grammar using Hello English. It aims to describe how Hello English can improve junior high school students’ vocabulary and grammar mastery.
