ABSTRACT

Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques have gained considerable attention, with growing interest in various areas and applications. The backbone of an AI-based application is its capability to support a distributed architecture and environment. AI- and IoT-based health care systems require complex learning, planning, and decision making due to large-scale computation and spatial distribution of computing resources. Distributed AI solves this problem by distributing the task to autonomous processing nodes also called agents. This chapter focuses on the history of AI, challenges of AI, and the necessity of integration with a distributed computing environment. Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI) relies on multiagent systems to distribute problem-solving over a set of autonomous processing nodes. Finally, an application of DAI in order to deliver effective solutions to real-time problems is offered.
