ABSTRACT

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have dozens of sensor nodes that are deployed for surveillance of an area including its images, weather conditions, events, humans and other subjects. The sensors in different UAVs may form a wireless sensor network (WSN). Each sensor node of the WSN has the capability of sensing, transmitting and processing data. The use of wireless communications in WSNs provide the chance to eavesdrop and jam/intercept the signals. Ensuring the security to the sensor network along with energy management is a challenging task. As most of the WSNs carry sensitive information, unauthorized or forged data may lead to wrong decisions. This chapter reviews the security requirement of WSNs, types of jammers and countermeasures against jammers developed so far. It also provides a brief description of some protocols used to achieve security in the networks. A comparison among the security measures taken against jamming attacks is also provided.
