ABSTRACT

The multi-utilization of plants with phytoremediation potential growing in the contaminated landis gaining much importance nowadays. The plants with high remediation potential, such asbioenergy crops, can be quickly grown in the contaminated land and can be simultaneouslyutilizedtoproducebiofuels.Thiseco-friendlyapproachinvolvessignificantlylesshumanresources and is a viable solution for environmental pollution. Each plant species varies in itsmechanism for heavy metal tolerance, and they utilize different strategies to thrive in the landwithheavymetalcontamination.Whengrownincontaminatedlands,theplantswithhighpotential for biomass production are potential candidates for the multipurpose utilization ofenvironmentalcleaningandbiofuelproduction.Asuccessfulbioenergysystemcansimultaneously reduce the dependence on fossil fuels leading to sustainable development.
