ABSTRACT

Cole crops, the largest group among temperate vegetables, are known for their nutritional benefits and also contribute to a great extent to protein requirement of the human body. The two important compounds known as indoles and dithiolthiones present in these crops have attracted pharmaceutical industries owing to their anticancer properties. The production and storage of these vegetables are plagued by an array of plant pathogens inflicting yield losses to hundred per cent under favourable conditions. The postharvest diseases in these crops not only reflect changes in quality but also add additional expenses to the grower. In this context, the management of these diseases is important. This chapter focuses on major postharvest diseases occurring in these crops, the associated etiology, epidemiology and their suitable management practices.
