ABSTRACT

Curcumin is a naturally occurring bioactive compound obtained from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa Linn. The therapeutic application of curcumin has shown a wide range of biological actions in various diseases. It has shown excellent therapeutic benefits in various diseases (cancer, inflammation, cardiac disease, skin disease, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), etc.). Despite having great therapeutic application their clinical use is limited due to low solubility, physicochemical instability, poor bioavailability, rapid metabolism, and poor pharmacokinetics (PKs). These problems can be overcome by delivering an efficient nanodelivery system. The curcumin’s PKs, systemic bioavailability, and biological activity have been established by loading curcumin

into nanoformulations. By developing a nanoformulations of curcumin their bioavailability can be enhanced due to the nanosize the greater surface area available for the absorption. The current chapter provides an overview of an efficient curcumin nanoformulation administered by different routes for various human diseases.
