ABSTRACT

5G provides advanced experiences and services in connectivity and applications. This chapter discusses the various techniques for actualizing the mmWave-mMIMO technology and the implications of this concept for 5G-IoT communications. 5G-IoT networks require complex technologies such as massive MIMO (mMIMO) and millimeter-wave (mmWave) radio frequencies for high-speed data transmission and massive connectivity of devices. Integrating mmWave technology and mMIMO in synergy enhances user outturn, strengthens spectral efficiency and increases the capacity of the communication network by practicing the combined potential of the giant usable BW in the mmWave range and peak multiplexing and diversity gain attainable through the immense number of antenna arrays. The chapter describes various waveform design approaches; transmission schemes, precoding and beamforming, channel modeling and channel estimation are discussed from the mmWave-mMIMO point of view for 5G-IoT connectivity.
