ABSTRACT

In order to explore an overall and wider perspective of nature-based solutions (NBS) implementation in cities, this chapter proposes and discusses a set of 10 key planning criteria.

The criteria, grouped in the four factors of urban environment, urban context, social structure and legal and planning framework, are aimed at better understanding the complex physical, social and immaterial components of cities. To support the decision, design, and implementation of NBS, an application of the ten criteria is proposed in the framework of a suitability, accessibility, and viability assessment. This can lead to an effective integration of NBS into urban contexts.
