ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the influence of anthropometric variables on human thermal perception in outdoor environments is evaluated. For that, meteorological data were measured on site alongside surveys with local population for a subtropical location and over different seasons. Differences in reported thermal sensation are analysed for subsets of the sample in terms of biological sex, age, body build, and skin colour. Microclimatic data were post-processed, so as to obtain thermal index values with the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) and its Dynamic Thermal Sensation predictive index for thermal sensation, both of which were used for comparisons against reported data.
