ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on ventilative cooling and analyses different methodologies to define its local climatic applicability, being passive cooling techniques strongly correlated with local climate conditions. Additionally, an early-design approach to consider the effect of urban spaces on ventilative cooling applicability is discussed. This contribution concerns the early-design stages, e.g. building programming, and aims to define the potential of passive and low-energy solutions in different locations adopting different key performance indicators. A test implementation of some of the described indices was performed assuming 100 locations representative of different climatic conditions in the Mediterranean Basin.
