ABSTRACT

Artists working with food, use innovative and interdisciplinary methods to engage people, an approach which could help contribute to greater food literacy amongst the public. This paper explores how artist-led projects can engage the public with the complexities of food, using a case study. The ‘Squid Inc’ events, organised by the Slow Food Youth Network are described as an ‘artistic and gastronomic experience’ based on three elements:‘the squid, the ink and the paper’. Interviews and a focus group were used to gain insights into the aims of stakeholders and the experiences of participants, which in turn could be used for future educational Food Design methodologies.
