ABSTRACT

The Internet of Energy (IoE) presents an efficient means for the amalgamation of renewable energy-based distributed power generation to the conventional utility grids. But integration of distributed energy sources to the utility grids introduced several challenges regarding protection of the system, the safety of information transfer, maintenance of privacy in energy trading, and so on. IoE technology provides an effective, highly reliable, and better communication network based on a real-time approach and a secure platform for the energy market. This chapter presents an extensive evaluation of different IoE features with their roles in the power system. The possible challenges while implementing IoE technology in existing power grids are also reviewed here. The areas for improvement through the IoE technology and future research directions that can enhance the development of the energy market are outlined in this chapter.
