ABSTRACT

Vehicle automation was conceptualized in 1918, and the first exhibit of an automated vehicle was made by General Motors in 1939. This chapter analyses the issue of cyber security, and in detail discusses the components which contribute to ADS and AVS in terms of cyber security issues and what the best methods are provided as security measures against cyberattacks and hacking. The road safety reports from India, the United States, and the World Health Organization clearly suggest that having AVS/ADS features in vehicles would avoid and control fatal death rates due to various types of accidents by cars and light and heavy trucks. Overall, the chapter looked into various aspects of cyber security, differences between AVS and ADS vehicles, legal issues associated with AVS and ADS vehicles, and threats and security issues in the context of the United States and India.
