ABSTRACT

The change from viewing two-dimensional (2D) pictures to now experiencing a product in their own “real” world thanks to augmented reality (AR), is the latest and most successful development for online retail. However, it is still early days in the adaptation of this new modern technology, from viewing the product and trying the virtual fitting room – not everyone is familiar with this innovation. This chapter discusses augmented reality and virtual reality. The advent of opportunities to shop online has made inroads into virtually all modes of businesses worldwide. The success and future of online businesses depends on how well they adopt newer technologies. Online platforms give a fast and convenient option to buy for customers not able to shop in person, or for retailers not able to provide the full in-person shopping experience to customers – an advantage of e-commerce in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, which has kept people stuck at home. This pandemic has disrupted and impacted our daily life but people are able to have door-to-door deliveries thanks to technology. E-commerce has received much attention due to its commercial potential. Studies by various researchers and their frameworks have shown that e-shopping is a convenient option, with the help of augmented reality.
