ABSTRACT

The most common issues faced by the visually challenged is the difficulty to navigate and travel the untrained indoor and outdoor circumstances. The existing solution to this problem consists of very expensive guide, dogs and ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection. This paper sought to use the technology used in self-driven cars by developing a light detection and ranging (LIDAR) & Camera based navigation system based on CNN that would allow the visually challenged to navigate in untrained circumstances and perform object detection, classification and avoidance. In future auditory feedback can be added to the system to make it more user friendly.
