ABSTRACT

Kiwifruit is the most nutrient-rich of the top 26 fruits consumed in the world today, and thus attracts the attention of the people globally. The research findings and consciousness about the emerging values of kiwifruit increase interests for their regular consumption as a part of healthy food and diet. Fruit provides vitamins, proteins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, energy, organic acids, and enzymes as well as contains several medicinal values. The taxonomic description of Kiwifruit is based on Flora of China 2007. Kiwifruits are hand-picked, served as appetizers, used in bread, beverages, salads, fish, fowl, meat dishes, pies, puddings, arranged as cake-filling, and ice cream may be topped with kiwifruit sauce or slices. Overripe fruits are utilized for flavouring ice cream and juice production. Health benefits of kiwifruit are attributed to a high content of specific minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients like carotenoids and essential fatty acids.
