ABSTRACT

Problems and solutions presented in this chapter deal with the preliminary design of radial-flow gas turbines. They include carrying out a preliminary design of an inward-flow radial (IFR) gas turbine, analyzing a radial-inflow turbine driven by compressed air, performing the optimum-efficiency design of an IFR turbine rotor, computing the performance of a radial-flow gas turbine, analyzing a standard 90° IFR gas turbine with choked nozzle, analyzing a radial-flow gas turbine with flat radial blades, and computing the specific work of a 90° IFR gas turbine. Detailed discussions of various concepts behind the problems and solutions presented in this chapter may be found in Logan’s Turbomachinery: Flowpath Design and Performance Fundamentals, Third Edition, by Bijay K. Sultanian, published by Taylor & Francis in 2015.
