ABSTRACT

Environmental hazards have mainly been viewed as the consequence of increasing population growth, industrial development, and rising living standards among the affluent. In the era of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), disruptive technologies have the potential to reduce negative impacts on the environment. The need for sustainable development to deal with environmental challenges is ever-increasing. Technological innovations in the domains of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, deep learning, sensor technology, Internet of Things (IoT), wireless communication, positioning systems, and data visualization have been adopted to incorporate the concept of green technology in various applications ranging from agriculture and farming, waste management, and environment monitoring, to water management. The focus of this study is to explore the correlation between innovative technologies and sustainable development goals. The objective of this chapter is to explore the role of smart technologies in environmental sustainability that do not negatively affect the environment. This work can help in arriving at green innovative solutions to existing environmental challenges.
