ABSTRACT

Over the past few decades, life expectation has increased significantly. Due to mobility difficulties or other health problems, elderly people who live on their own often need support. In such cases, an independent supporting system may be helpful. One of the most exciting trends and innovations in the recent history of technological advancement is Internet of Things (IoT). In recent years, it has garnered much attention to lighten the anxiety on healthcare systems caused by the aging population and a rise in chronic illnesses. The current development and growth in the arena of IoT is providing great potential in the route of the innovative era of healthcare. The vision of the healthcare is expansively preferred, as it advances the excellence of life and health of humans, involving several health regulations. The continuous increase of multifaceted IoT devices in health is broadly tested by challenges such as powering the IoT terminal nodes used for health monitoring, real-time data processing, and smart decision and event management. Sensors can collect the patient data dynamically to stimulate preventive care, diagnostics, 192etc. and to measure treatment results. This chapter focuses on sensors that are nonintrusive and noninvasive and exclude sensors that are implantable and on the motivation of the basic concept of smart sensors that are used in healthcare and monitoring systems for helping elderly peoples and are proven useful in medical and home environments. This chapter briefs about different smart sensors and their impact on human life, which will help in future research. Also, it proposes a standard model for application in future IoT healthcare systems.
