ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the ecosystem impairment can be remediated following sustainable development-which is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs-with a particular focus on carbon management strategies in urban ecosystems. The chapter focuses on popular energy efficiency strategies that tend to be used in urban areas, and it excludes power plant activities that generally occur outside of the urban boundary. Useful energy storage and transfer techniques must then be integrated with solar collectors in order to improve efficiency and reduce energy losses. Urban developers, workers, and dwellers are not the only groups that can employ urban carbon management strategies. The carbon effects of deforestation, for example, can be linked to the demand for agricultural products, which require cleared land and sun exposure.
