ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the problem of emission constrained power system planning is presented and the Indian power sector is used to illustrate the method. In order to accommodate multiple objectives into the pinch analysis framework, weighted optimization is incorporated into pinch analysis to generate a composite objective function. A case study involving the Indian power sector is considered in order to demonstrate the applicability of this method. It is possible to generate a graphical solution space for three-objective optimization problems. The concept of the prioritized cost was extended to problems with multiple objectives, and a Multi-Objective Prioritised Cost is then used to identify a prioritizing sequence for any given value of weighting factor. The solution spaces for two objective optimizations considers the variation of energy mix when cost minimization and water footprint minimization are considered.
