ABSTRACT

Agricultural residue burning releasestoxicchemicalsthatpolluteourenvironment. Pollutedaircanbeinhaledbyhumansandanimals, andalsodepositedatthesoilandsurfacewater, andcausestoxicity. Agriculturalresidueburningcontaminatesthesoilandgroundwater, andalsodisturbsthemicrobialcommunities. Additionally, certainchemicalsreleasedbytheburningofagriculturalresiduecanaccumulateinhumanfatswhenweconsumemeat, fish, anddairyproducts. Furthermore, smokeandsootparticlescantravellongdistancesandcorrodemetalsidinganddamagepaintonbuildings. Thealternativeusesofagriculturalresiduematerialmanagementcanbebeneficialforsocio-economicandenvironmentalperspectives. Thepresentchapterfocusesonagriculturalresidueburninganditseffectsonenvironmentalhealthincludingairquality, soilhealth, andmicrobialhealth, andalsodiscussesmanagementtechnologiesinasustainableway.
