ABSTRACT

Within the research project “Relation based process modelling co-operative building planning” that is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) a relational process model was defined. This model consists of three hierarchical substructures for the organisation, the building and the planning process. With the dynamical assembly of the process model for a real world project, the elements of these structures have to be clearly arranged in the graphical user interface. In order to manipulate and navigate in hierarchical graph structures we have developed methods for the automated arrangement of graph elements. In this paper the theoretical background of a method for the arrangement of graph elements without overlapping elements is presented. The usability and practicability of this method is demonstrated within a case study.
