ABSTRACT

The product modeling and information standards community presented various types of Building Information Models (BIMs) in the last decade(s). One of the most successful ones is the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), which have already been implemented in the various AEC/FM applications. Today IFC 2.0 and IFC 2x are supported by a number of engineering applications and an increasing number of businesses are using the IFC model to exchange at least the geometric information. Tests of interoperability between architectural applications presented in the paper indicate that structured geometric information exchange using the IFC still can not be blindly trusted.
