ABSTRACT

Process models are frequently applied to the construction of new buildings and the renovation of the existing building stocks with the help of evolving information technologies and solutions. However, there are no real advancements to be gained without the modeling of total building project (BP) processes. In turn, it is herein proposed that the integration of building product models, project resource models, and project process models be a solution for increasing substantially the effectiveness and the efficiency of BP management, design tasks, and construction activities. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to find out the extent to which the current process models in the literature serve total BP management and to design initially an integrated model to meet the requirements that viable BP management imposes on information and communications systems. Finally, the suggested integrated models serving total BP management are discussed.
