ABSTRACT

HBM has done the design and construction of various stadia in Holland and Germany for both the European Championships in 2000 and the World Cup in 2006. Two arena’s, the Gelredome in Arnhem, Holland and the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany have a movable roof and a movable pitch. The idea of a movable pitch is that an extra multifunctionality of the arena is created when the pitch is outside the stadium (concerts, events) and that the quality of the grass can be kept in perfect conditions. For all the stages of the design and construction process of the movable pitches an integrated information and knowledge management system is used. All design requirements, design drawings and specifications of works between the 5 different design offices, co makers and partners as well as the buying and construction departments, as well as interfaces between the different disciplines hydraulics, electrics, structural, pitch and sliding system are controlled over the information database, which is used, after finishing the project, as a knowledge base for a next project as well.
