ABSTRACT

In addition to analytical and comparative validations, empirical validation of building energy simulation codes is an important component in understanding the capacity and limitations of the software. Within the framework of Task 34/Annex 43 of the International Energy Agency (IEA), a series of experiments is being performed in the EMPA outdoor test cell with guarded zones. The objective of these experiments is to provide high-quality data sets for code developers and modelers to validate their solar gain models for windows with and without shading devices. This paper provides an overview about the work performed for this project but does not contain specific validation data sets or results. References for obtaining more detailed information on specific experiments and for downloading original validation data are given.
