ABSTRACT

This paper compares two different models currently used to calculate the shear strength of unreinforced masonry (URM) walls retrofitted using fiber reinforced polymers (URM-FRP). The models were used to calculate the shear strengths of six recently tested URM-FRP walls. Each specimen was retrofitted on the entire surface of a single side using FRP with different axial rigidities. One of the shear models has been recently developed by the author of this paper. Comparisons between the two different shear models showed that the author’s model is more conservative than the other existing model. In addition, for a small FRP axial rigidity, the difference between the two models was insignificant. Flowever, with increasing the FRP axial rigidity the differences between the two models became more significant.
