ABSTRACT

The finite strip method has been used for the solution of skew plates. When using sine functions in the longitudinal direction, the support boundary condition of zero normal moment is not satisfied, and results are poor for even moderate skew. In this paper, two simple polynomial functions are added to the sine functions, enabling the force boundary conditions to be approximately satisfied in the normal finite element manner. A single strip-element is considered to demonstrate the errors arising in using traditional finite strips, and how this problem may be simply overcome.
