ABSTRACT

In this paper, an analytical model is presented to simulate the dynamic behaviour of inclined cables with oscillating water rivulets under wind load excitation. After the dynamic characteristic of the water rivulet have been explored and its influence on the aerodynamic force studied, a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear model for the coupled system of the cable and the rivulet is developed. The Hurwitz discriminant is then used to evaluate the kinematic stability of the system. The free vibration of the nonlinear system has a steady state amplitude, which may be obtained by means of a step-by-step integral method. Numerical results are compared with existing experimental results, showing that the model is reasonable and effective.
