ABSTRACT

Tacit knowledge is increasingly being recognized as a vital organizational resource that provides competitive advantage. Information Technology (IT) has a supporting role in tacit knowledge management. This paper puts forward a framework of IT systems for tacit knowledge management, which includes three layers (interface layer, function layer, repository layer) and consists of four subsystems (skill knowledge management system, experience knowledge management system, expert network management system and virtual communities). In addition, the representation and organization of skill knowledge, experience knowledge, expert network and communication documents are proposed for implementation.
