ABSTRACT

A ground anchor is a structural member which can transmit an applied tensile force to a load-hearing stratum. The main application of anchors in the maintenance of brick and masonry structures is to prevent horizontal movement of retaining walls, bridge abutments etc. Anchors may be inclined or vertical, passive or prestressed, temporary or permanent. Anchors used to restrain existing structures from sliding and/or rotation are normally inclined, prestressed and permanent.
