ABSTRACT
Many of the photographs in this book demonstrate the extent to which masonry structures may distort or deteriorate before becoming unserviceable, while some of the examples show how slowly defects may develop. This should inspire a degree of confidence in those responsible for the maintenance of similar structures, but it must never induce complacency. To keep control over the maintenance situation it is essential to be constantly vigilant and aware of the evolving condition of every asset.
