ABSTRACT

Three factors concerning the increasing problems with the assignment of employees over 40 years are discussed. These factors are shift- or nightwork, production pace or time pressure and stress from new technologies. In addition, there is a relative shortage of younger people, who may replace the age group of 40-50 years. Anyhow, the change to 'normal' schedules, because of reasons such as health or changes in the personal sphere, is hampered by such causes. In our modern society, for the near future, shiftwork will tend to increase, there is much pace-dictated, assembly-line work and new technologies are introduced continuously. Taken together, these factors may indicate the increasing difficulty of placing workers over 40 years, since they seem to be, and feel, out of place in this changing, technological world.
