ABSTRACT

The number of jobs available and the age structure in the work-force change. Work itself and access to work are important factors in rehabilitation and a way back to an active role. Disability may occur at any age and many elderly workers usually share similar obstacles to finding employment. The objectives and measures are mainly the same. In Sweden some of the disabled find employment at Samhall AB. Samhall's operating concept is to provide meaningful and vocational employment to persons with occupational disabilities. The production of goods and services are the means through which Samhall (the second-largest business group in Sweden) attempts to realize the operating concept: 27 900 of its employees are disabled; many are elderly. Knowledge of the fundamental values in the company is important on every level. The role of the management and the future for Samhall towards the year 2000 is presented.
